Many retirees today travel and feel comfort in knowing they have a place to come home to and a place where they can enjoy being with their children and grandchildren. For may people, it is a win / win situation. Ahhh, the joys of being a grandparent.

BUILDER / REMODELER CHECKLIST

Redington Beach 2nd Story Room Addition

American Housing Remodeling, Inc. wants to be your remodeling contractor, but we know we have to earn your trust first. This is a great checklist from the NAHB that will help you select the right home builder or home remodeler to work on or build your home. After checking us out, we feel confident that you will see why so many others have selected American Housing to be their builder for life.

  • Ask family, friends or coworkers for recommendations.
  • Make sure the builder or home remodeler has a permanent business location and a good reputation with local banks and suppliers.
  • Find out how long they have been in the building business. It usually takes three to five years to establish a financially sound business. You want to make sure they will be around after the construction is complete to service any warranties.
  • Check out the company’s rating and if there have been any complaints filed with your local Better Business Bureau: http://www.bbb.org/.
  • Make sure the builder/remodeler has sufficient workers compensation and general liability insurance. If not, you may be liable for any construction-related accidents on your premises.
  • Ask the builder/remodeler to provide you with names of previous customers. If they won’t, beware. If they do, ask the customers if they would hire the builder/remodeler again.
  • Ask if you can see the builder/remodelers work, both completed and in progress. Check for quality of workmanship and materials.
  • Do you feel you can easily communicate with the builder/remodeler? Remember you will be in close contact with them throughout the construction process and afterward as you live in your new home.
  • Make sure the builder/remodeler provides you with a complete and clearly written contract. The contract will benefit both of you. If you are having a new home built, get and review a copy of the home warranty and homeowner manual as well.
  • Be cautious of unusually low-priced bids. If the builder/remodeler is unable to pay for the materials and labor as the project proceeds, this may indicate a potential problem. Keep in mind that less expensive does not necessarily mean better!

Building a custom home or remodeling in the Tampa Bay area? Don’t forget to design the laundry room. While the laundry room is often ignored in design, making your space more efficient and attractive can make your laundry experience a lot more pleasant.

Typically, the laundry room is made to look overly institutional, completely lacking design. Add a little pleasure to the unexciting task of laundry by giving your laundry room a theme. Art objects while normally disregarded for the laundry room can help support your custom selected theme. When choosing a décor make sure it will help give your laundry design a clean style to it.

Adding an In-law Suite Can Be A Good Thing!

There are times in life when circumstances beyond their control force families to come together and join forces to help each other. Whether it be for economic reasons or for health reasons, there may come a time when children have to move back in with their parents or there may be a time when parents have to move in with their children. In fact, the AARP reports that the number of households nationwide that now have more than two generations living together under one roof has expanded by more than six million people over the past few years. Money is usually the primary reason why multiple generations move in together, but health care issues and strong family bonds are also factors.

The National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) believes that home remodels can help families accommodate these life changing situations. Whether the remodel is to be designed to accommodate living quarters for a younger couple who may have a child or if it is to be designed to accommodate an aging parent that may need handicap accessibility, there are many design options available that can not only enhance the livability of your home, but can also keep your homes’ functionality intact.

The functionality of a home is very important, especially over the long term. Functionality of a home generally starts with a good design. Not only is it important to make sure that a Room Addition is designed properly to keep your home’s integrity intact, but a good remodeler also knows it is important to help take special care of the minor concerns as well, such as a missing electrical outlet or a missing light switch. Although these minor details are important, it is the Room Addition itself that must be designed to compliment your existing home.

Multi-generational households often require some design principles to be incorporated to help increase the accessibility for everyone who will be living in the home. NARI remodelers have the ability to tap into the special needs of their clients and incorporate them into the design.  It’s all about personalization of each job. Before getting started, it is important to know if the added space will be for a young family with a small child or if it will be used by empty-nesters. This should all be planned out in advance and taken into consideration when designing a project, long before the actual job is started.

So, whether you are thinking about adding an in-law apartment over the garage, a room off the back of your home or a second story addition over your existing house, you will have to look at your own particular situation, determine how much more room you will need, and then decide what will work best for you. You will not only want to consider how the design will affect your existing home, but you will want to consider how it will impact those of you who will all be living together under the one roof together. With the proper planning and design, it can be a very pleasurable experience and a time when your family can enjoy the closeness of being together and appreciate knowing that this is what being a family is all about.

Contact American Housing Remodeling, Inc. at 727-546-6611 for more information on the Remodeling or the adding of a Room Addition or In-Law Suite on to your home. American Housing Remodeling, Inc. is located at 6580 72 Ave N in Pinellas Park, Florida 33781.

Buying New vs Adding On

Besides providing your home with more living space, a room addition can be a terrific investment. However, before moving forward with that room addition, there are a few things you might want to consider first. Look at your neighborhood’s home market values, the estimated cost of the room addition, getting the plans drawn and where and how to go about getting the necessary financing if needed. Consider your tolerance level for your family’s disruption during the actual construction period. While American Housing can help you with this and will work hard to make your experience as pleasant as possible, let’s face it, your home will be a construction site for a while and there will be some minor inconveniences. With that said, we will work together with you to make it as pleasant an experience as possible. The end result will be well worth it.

So, if your family is in need of more room and you already know that buying a new home is not the answer for you, then adding on a room addition, or even a second story room addition, may be just the solution. After all, you like where you live and you like your neighbors and your neighborhood.

It is also important to note that adding a room will probably be far less expensive than having to sell your existing home and then having to buy a new bigger home. Between the selling costs of your existing home, the price and the closing costs of purchasing your new home, the saving will most likely be substantial. Without going through all of that, you can have a home that will be more functional and more suitable to you and your family’s lifestyle and not even have to move.

Once you have decided to add that room addition, the first thing to do is to plan out what it is you want and remember that a good room addition design will be the key to your success. It is during this phase that the design for your room addition project and costs will be determined.  A good plan will ensure that the room addition project will go smoothly and will stay within your budget.

The planning stage of your room addition is also the time to determine how your project will be financed. There are various financing options available depending on the cost of your project. A home equity loan

is probably the most common way home owners obtain money for a room addition, but there is also the possibility of a personal loan or the refinancing of your existing home. And of course, there is always cash. Cash is a great way to go if you are in a position to do so.

Then there comes the time that you must decide on who is going to do the work. It is the decision of hiring the right remodeling contractor. One of the things you might want to do is to talk to your neighbors, friends and co-workers. It is always nice to know about the contractor you are considering using. Ask for references and maybe even go out and look at a job or two that is under construction. You want a reputable contractor that has a reputation for customer service, customer satisfaction and quality work. It is also nice to work with a contractor that plays an active role in the community. American Housing is a One and Two Story Room Addition remodeling contractor that fits that bill.

American Housing is a member of the NAHB, FHBA, TBBA, NARI, the Better Business Bureau, and Local Chambers of Commerce. American Housing also sponsors a local Little League baseball team and donates to many local charities.

The second floor has now been framed in, the walls erected, the roof installed, and the drywall is now being finished. The exterior of home will be stuccoed as the interior trims are being installed. Once that phase is complete, the next step will include painting the interior and the exterior of the home. INDIA: A LAND OF UNIQUE CULTURES

American Housing understands that there are many diverse cultures that make up America today. These different cultures are one of the reasons why America is so unique, and so great, in today’s world.

As new a home builder and remodeler, we have had the pleasure of working with many people from some of the different and wonderful cultures from around the world that now make up the Tampa Bay area, including families of Indian descent. Through our experience of working with people of India’s Indian heritage, we have learned that India is a very colorful country, and like us, they have a unique integration of many ethnic groups displaying a variety of distinct cultures and religions.

We have learned that the people of India speak many different languages, dress differently, follow different religions, and eat different foods, but are basically of the same spirit. So when there is a celebration, they don’t celebrate alone. The entire neighborhood or community is involved in bringing merriment to the occasion. Likewise, in times of sorrow, neighbors and friends play an important part in sharing a family’s grief.

In working with the many wonderful people of Indian descent, we have learned that family plays a very important role in the Indian culture. From an early age, children are continually reminded of their place in society and taught to respect and honor their elders. It is a system in which extended family members, including parents, children, spouses and their offspring often live together, with the eldest male member of a household being the head of the family and making all of the important family decisions.

Like many countries around the world, India has certain traditions that have become a part of its folklore. For instance, it is said the simple act of utensils falling on the floor may foretell the coming of guests. And you know what that means. Company! And, oh yes, it is also said that a sparrow building a nest in, or near, a new home is an omen for good fortune. We will have to look in to this one.

Another interesting thing we learned about is the Indian belief in the Doctrine of Karma. This Doctrine preaches that every person should behave justly towards others because every act or deed will one day come back in full circle. Karma, what goes around comes around.

It is fun to learn about other cultures and traditions. We were told by one family of Indian descent that they compare their culture to a garden of flowers with many of shades and colors that lends harmony and beauty to their garden.  They said they read it somewhere and just loved how it expressed their feelings. Very Nice.

We, at American Housing, appreciate the many diverse cultures and respect all of the many different customs and traditions. As builders and remodelers, we realize that we may have to modify our designs in creating the perfect home and work closely with our customers to achieve this goal. Whether we are building you a new home, adding on a room addition, or remodeling your existing home, we will listen to your concerns and requests regarding the design and building of your project.
